Abstract

In the contemporary era, social and economic changes, along with transformations in family structures, have brought the role of mothers into a new perspective. There is ongoing discussion in academic and social circles regarding the responsibilities of homemaker mothers and working mothers, and which role is more effective in the religious, moral, and psychological upbringing of children.

This article presents a comparative analysis of both roles in light of Islamic teachings. The study is based on the Quran, Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence, and the views of contemporary Islamic scholars such as Abul A’la Maududi

The findings indicate that, in Islam, the main priority is not whether a mother is a homemaker or working outside the home, but rather the proper and balanced upbringing of the children. Employment is not considered a problem as long as it does not interfere with a mother’s educational and nurturing duties. The supervision, time management, and moral guidance provided by the mother remain of primary importance.
