Abstract
Orientalism is a field of study that led Western thinkers to study Eastern cultures, particularly the cultures of the Islamic world and the Middle East. There are several motivations, objectives and influences behind this study. After the Industrial Revolution and other developments, the West considered itself the most advanced civilization in the world and considered the Eastern cultures inferior. European countries used the resources of the Eastern countries, especially wanted to capture oil and other minerals. Western thinkers had philosophical and religious interest in Islam and other Eastern religions. European countries wanted to expand their political interests in Eastern countries. Some Western thinkers studied Eastern cultures only out of academic curiosity. The main motives and objectives of Orientalism include the promotion of political domination, establishment of religious superiority, scientific documentation of the East, fulfillment of imperial interests, and economic motives. This study examines the motives and objectives of Orientalism and its effects. Provides help in knowing. Because Orientalism has had a profound impact on the Muslim world and Muslim thinkers. Orientalism has played an important role in understanding Islamic civilization and culture. It promoted research on various aspects of Islamic civilization, and many important works came out in this regard. Isthiraq helped to promote rapprochement and understanding between different civilizations. By knowing the motivations and objectives presented, we will be able to know about the effects of Isthiraq.
