Protection of Women’s Rights in the Light of the Seerah of the Holy Prophet (A Research Study)
Abstract
The way women have been treated throughout history tells us a lot about different civilizations. In many ancient societies, women were seen as less than men and denied even the most basic rights. In Greece, they were kept inside the home and had little say in education or public life. In Rome, they were treated almost like property. In medieval Europe, women were often linked with sin and burdened by strict social rules, while in South Asia they were excluded from inheritance and lived under constant dependence. Islam, however, changed this picture in a remarkable way. It taught that men and women were created from the same soul, making them equal in their humanity. For the first time, women were given clear rights to property, inheritance, education, and marriage. As mothers, Islam honored them by declaring that paradise lies under their feet. As daughters, they were valued as a source of blessing. As sisters, they were granted a share in inheritance. And as wives, they were promised respect, kindness, and partnership. These changes were groundbreaking for their time and reshaped how women were viewed in society. Islam not only gave women their rights but also placed them at the center of family and community life. It showed that the strength of a society depends on the dignity and respect it gives to its women.
