LINGUISTIC CHANGES IN THE URDU LANGUAGE AND THEIR IMPACT: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS
Abstract
The Urdu language has undergone significant linguistic changes over time due to various social, cultural, political, and technological factors. This article explores the historical background of Urdu and the influence of different civilizations and languages, including Persian, Arabic, Turkish, and Hindi, on its development. The rise of technology, globalization, and international communication has further accelerated these changes, introducing new vocabulary and expressions while simultaneously challenging the purity and structural integrity of the language. Positive effects of these changes include the expansion of the Urdu lexicon, increased global recognition, and adaptability to modern communication platforms. However, the negative impacts, such as grammatical distortions, the rise of Roman Urdu, and the decline of traditional script, pose serious challenges to the language's authenticity. The study emphasizes the need for educational and technological reforms to preserve the core identity of Urdu while embracing modern linguistic trends. Collaborative efforts from governments, educational institutions, and media platforms are essential to ensure the continued growth and global presence of the Urdu language.
