The Role of Tafsiri Literature in The Development of Islamic Jurisprudence
Abstract
This research article explores the indispensable role of Tafsiri literature in the evolutionary journey of Islamic jurisprudence. The study argues that the Qur’anic interpretation Tafsir has not merely been a theological or linguistic exercise but a dynamic source for juristic reasoning and legal transformation across different centuries. By analyzing classical and modern Tafsiri works, the research demonstrates how exegetes have extracted legal rulings from divine text while adapting to changing social realities without compromising foundational principles. The interaction between Tafsir and Fiqh has enabled jurists to understand the spirit of Shariah beyond literal applications, fostering flexibility and relevance. This paper highlights that every major juristic evolution corresponds with a deeper reinterpretation of Qur’anic verses through contextual Tafsir methodologies. The study further reveals that Tafsiri literature acted as a bridge between revelation and human experience, allowing legal verdicts to address emerging challenges like finance, medicine, and governance. Through historical and analytical methods, the research establishes that exegetical works transformed abstract divine commands into practical legal frameworks. This synergy prevented jurisprudential stagnation and encouraged rational ijtihad. Consequently, the paper concludes that any future development in Islamic law must remain deeply connected to Tafsir literature to preserve authenticity and adaptability. The findings underscore that without exegetical insight, juristic evolution risks either rigidity or deviation, making Tafsir an eternal partner to Fiqh.
