Abstract

The study aims at discussing and exploring the sentiments of revolution, aggression, nationalism and hatred against the mighty elites during and after the colonial rule through selected, translated verses of one of the most renowned Sindhi and Urdu poets Shaikh Ayaz. The study finds that Ayaz is a popular voice during colonial rule, partition and the events emerging after independence mainly martial laws, political chaos and anarchy and ban on freedom of speech.   The major source of translation was ‘Songs of Freedom’- a translation of four books of Ayaz by Asif Farrukhi and Saleem Noonari published by Sindh Culture Department.
