Abstract

This research paper discusses the increasing rate of depression in the youth and provides an elaborate Islamic interpretation of the causes and remedies of depression. Depression can be described as a clinical mental condition that is manifested by constant sadness, lack of interest, lost energy, low self-esteem, sleeping and eating disorders, and in worse conditions, suicidal thoughts. It is a complicated combination of biological (neurochemical imbalances), psychological (adverse thought patterns) and social-environmental factors, which is especially high in adolescence a critical time of identity formation, academic stress, and future anxiety. The modern trends reveal that the rates of youth depression are on the steep rise in the world, as the main cause of this issue are family disputes, poverty and unemployment, intense competition in education, the culture of toxic comparison promoted by social media, rivalry in society which contributes to the feeling of inferiority, the deterioration of interpersonal relationships, and the loss of spiritual closeness to Allah. These aspects bring about emotional isolation, senselessness, unremoving anxiety and hopelessness, which are usually reflected by sleeping problems, exhaustion, annoyance, and self-damage inclination. The paper has shown that the Islamic teachings are holistic, practical, and spiritually based in terms of prevention and recovery. The major solutions are enhancing tawakkul (dependence on Allah), yaqeen (certainty), frequent salah (prayer) to establish spiritual foundation, fasting to maintain self-control and emotional balance, Quranic recitation and dhikr to find inner peace, sabr (patience) and shukr (gratitude) to reform adversity, and establishing a robust family structure, brotherhood (ukhuwwah), mutual support, and social justice to belong and feel secure. The Prophetic Sunnah presents strong figures of strength, hope, and emotional control by bearing hardships patiently, praying invasions of misery, and never doubting the Allah wisdom. The conclusion highlights that Islamic values are based on tawhid, goal-oriented life, and unity of the community that provide the youth with a resilient, hopeful and balanced worldview against the contemporary psychological pressures. Suggestions comprise the incorporation of spiritual training in education based on the Islamic faith, the enhancement of family and mosque support, fostering positive thinking and the sense of purpose, and the development of moral character using the Prophetic direction. The youth mental health of Muslim societies can be preserved, depression minimized and generation of a spiritually grounded, emotionally robust and socially integrated generation has been cultivated by restoring the teaching of these teachings.
