Self-Purification in Quran and its Practical Aspect (An Inductive and Applied Study)
Abstract
The main purpose of the Holy Quran is the reform and welfare of the individual and the society. The path that the Holy Qur'an lays down for the fulfilment of this goal is، the construction of humanity, which is not possible without self-purification. According to the Qur'an, the most important and fundamental responsibility on a human being is to prove himself as the vicegerent of God Almighty while living in this world, which necessarily means that it is very important for a person to focus on his own reformation. The Holy Qur'an has mentioned three stages of Nafs (human feeling): Nafs al-Imarat al-Saw, al-Nafs al-Lawamah, al-Nafs al-Mutmainah. The most difficult but important task for a human being is to make the self-satisfied by obeying the will of his Lord. According to the Qur'an, the one who purifies the soul gets success and the one who submits to the soul is doomed to failure. In this discussion, while describing the Quranic meaning of self-purification, the statistics of the Quranic verses about self-purification, the determination of the meaning that comes out in the light of these blessed verses and its relation to our lives, the description of the three types of Nafs are explained.
